Tips for Buying Fish

When shopping for fish, make sure the eyes are clean, the skin is tight, and the smell is equally as fresh.

If you are buying a filet, look for a bright and clear appearance. It should look moist and have no gaps in the surface of the fish. It should be smooth and even.

Look for fish that have been caught individually, on the “long-line,” and not caught in a net. Find a fishmonger and ask questions. They should respect your business. Ask where it came from, how it was caught, etc. If it is a good quality fish, let them know, they want to see you come in again!
